This late Shingle-style mansion was designed by Cleveland architect, Frank B. Meade (1867-1947) and built in 1905 for Albert H. Jarecki (1852-1933), President of Jarecki Manufacturing Company.
A four-bay garage was constructed six years later in 1911, with a matching stone facade and rolled-edge roof as the main house. Such an oversized garage was fitting for Albert, one of the earliest owners of an automobile in Erie. The two-story garage housed a residence on the second floor for Albert Jarecki’s chauffeur and his family.
The mansion and garage have since been converted into 14 apartments; 10 in the main house and 4 in the garage. Interior renovations are on the drawing board; however, exterior restoration has started with cleaning of the stone facade.
The house was listed as 520 W. Sixth Street (Albert Jarecki House) in the National Register of Historic Places by the U.S. Department of the Interior as a significant building in the West Sixth Street Historic District in 1984.
