Built c. 1900 by Lewis Olds (1822-1908), it is one of three buildings in a row with the characteristic “Olds Shape.” Some of the first inhabitants of the house were Edward Perkins Selden (1858-1925) and his family.
Edward P. Selden was born at Mayside, Fairview Township, in Erie County on April 27, 1858, and was the son of Samuel (1821-1882) and Caroline M. Perkins Selden (1823-1918). Edward received his education at a private school in Mayside and in the Erie public schools. At the age of 14, he secured employment at his uncle's hardware store, John Card Selden (1825-1888). From the hardware store, he went to work in his father’s shop, The Selden & Griswold Mfg. Company. At the age of 16, he was an office boy at the Erie City Iron Works, where he remained until his retirement in 1924, having served as bookkeeper, timekeeper, sales manager, treasurer, vice president, general manager, and president. Edwin would marry Blanche McCreary Selden (1871-1924) in 1885.
This house was listed as 333 W. Sixth Street (Olds Selden House) in the National Register of Historic Places by the U.S. Department of the Interior as a significant building in the West Sixth Street Historic District in 1984.
